Making history, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) brought the launch of its State of World Population (SWOP) Report to the African continent, and Coalition for Women’s Health in Africa (COWHA) was honored to stand among the voices shaping this crucial dialogue, represented by our own Dr Amit N. Thakker ,EBS, Executive Chairman at Africa Health Business

Held at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Nairobi, the global launch of the #2025 SWOP report, “The Real Fertility Crisis: The Pursuit of Reproductive Agency in a Changing World,” brought together dynamic voices from across sectors to challenge outdated narratives and push for meaningful reform.

The conversation was on the urgent need for gender-responsive health systems, the integration of menopausal health into reproductive health agendas, and the importance of policies that promote reproductive urgency for all.

Key highlights from the launch included:
✅1 in 5 reproductive-age adults fear they won’t achieve their desired family size.
✅1 in 3 have experienced an unintended pregnancy.
✅A collective call for youth-friendly services, supportive workplace cultures, and inclusive health policies.
✅A bold demand for menopausal health to be prioritized in national health systems.

The launch also saw vibrant contributions from youth advocates, including Bitania Lulu Berhanu, Director at Y-ACT, who called for meaningful youth engagement and the use of technology to connect with young people in ways that are relevant and accessible.
